LIFE Housing

Accommodation and support services for women who are pregnant or have a baby or young child and who are homeless or in need of support.

Supported accommodation

Accommodation is provided in LIFE House for women both during pregnancy and after birth. The House is purpose built to current standards of supported accommodation, with 6 individual self-contained, furnished flats. The mothers take responsibility for looking after themselves and their babies, within the supportive environment of the House.

The support service provided by the staff is designed to enable the mother to make a successful transition to independent living. Individual support plans and a Life Skills Programme are key elements of the service.

An additional element of the service is Family Time, a project which involves a young father where he is in a supportive relationship with the mother and baby.

Community Support

The scheme offers support to young mums and their children living in their own homes.

Move-on and resettlement support is provided for girls leaving LIFE House. The Community Support Worker helps them build up a local support network to ensure they are not socially isolated.

Floating support is available for those who have on-going support needs, or who have been referred for support to enable them to remain in their own home.

LIFE House is situated in East Belfast and is jointly managed with Helm Housing Association. The support services both in LIFE House and in the community are funded by Supporting People, the government funding stream for the supported housing sector.
